BAD DESIGN from an MECHANICAL ENGINEER's View : Gaggia 90901 Platinum Swing Up Automatic Espresso Machine with Milk Island

From a Mechanical Engineer who bought one:
I bought one without being able to see it first. First mistake, gearing, grinder and all machine parts are plastic. So, they wear with little usage and then screw-up. If I was able to see one, I would have never bought it. I looked at other design features and they too were poorly designed like the chutes the grinds have travel thru. You don't want to buy GAGGIA! Get yourself a simpler machine that works manually.
In not quite 2 years, I have had 3 major breakdowns to the grinder, pump and dispensing solenoid. Each time you must pay for your own shipping, at least $50 each way, warrenty or not. I guarrantee if you buy this machine, you will have to have periodic major repair work that is expensive.
